We worked closely with architect Dave Murray and Builder Creative Construction to craft beautifully sculpted super insulated, and carbon sequestering straw bale walls for this new multi-generational home in New Paltz, NY. This wall assembly provides about R-60 insulation value, and contains about 650 bales of locally grown straw. Finished with a 1” thick lime plaster, these walls will provide comfort and beauty for generations to come.

It’s always satisfying to turn the shaggy straw, mesh, lathe wall into a smooth, uniform, graceful surface. We did a three coat application of natural hydraulic lime plaster with the first coat shot on pneumatically with a mortar sprayer and large air compressor. Successive coats were laid on with hawk and trowel.
