“Natural Building” is about using locally available materials in intelligent ways, to meet our needĀ for shelter. Wood, Stone, Earth, and Straw/Fiber can be combined in a multitude of ways to create strong structures, beautiful and durable finishes. Not only are natural materials inherently beautiful and safe, the use of natural materials will reduce carbon emissions now.

The standard natural wall system in the northeast is straw-bale walls with earth/lime plaster finishes. Cob or adobe can be used on the interior for sculptural elements and floors but lacks insulative quality for walls in the north. Hempcrete is gaining popularity as a carbon sequestering and moderately insulating wall. Green roofs can bring life to your building by providing habitat for wildflowers and insects.

There is of course a place for modern materials in our buildings, but we try to find the right balance for your unique project.
